Calgary on Purpose
Tuesday, December 12, 2023
7 PM | Dome Theatre
Please join us for the last of the 2023 Calgary on Purpose "Evenings of Conversation and Connection."
Our aim is to encourage Calgary to be a model of how the people of the world can live well together. In that spirit, we delight in the skills, stories, aspirations and goodwill of our remarkable neighbours on this land.
We begin with a few extraordinary creative Calgarians showing brief examples of their work, who the inimitable Dave Kelly will then interview. Following this, Dave will engage all of us in the audience in conversation. The program will finish by 8:30pm but the bar will be open for those who wish to stay and chat further.
We take great pride in announcing the presenters for the December 12 event. Garret Smith, a generous-spirited and playful Blackfoot actor and writer, will be among them. Perpetual Atife, an exceptional saxophonist, and friends will enchant the audience with jazz. Additionally, tenor Jason Ragan and baritone Connor Hoppenbrouwers, part of the Calgary Opera's McPhee Artist Development program, will perform duets accompanied by the Opera's Mel Kirby. Dave will then share a remembrance of the remarkable community builder Jim Button following which Dave will engage all of us in conversation about our city
Thanks to the generous support of Contemporary Calgary, volunteers and Calgary Arts Development, the event is free to the public. However, we kindly request that you RSVP to ensure your seat. Feel free to invite friends and colleagues, but please ask them to RSVP as well.
The intent of this evening is to stimulate curiosity about and appreciation for our neighbors on this land. Do join us in sharing and celebrating our concerns, hopes and dreams for our beloved city!
