Experimental Movement Lecture-Workshop
With Yotam Peled (DE/ IL)
LIVE on ZOOM | May 26 | 10AM | 6PM CEST
Duration: 2 hours

Yotam Peled is a Berlin-based freelance performer and choreographer, and current resident in Contemporary Calgary’s 2020 Collider In-Residence Artist Residency. The two-hour hybrid movement lecture and workshop, conducted via Zoom, and held at LAKE studios Berlin is part of Yotam’s residency research into how his interests and creativity are evolving in response to a now necessitated digital space and the ways in which this shapes his physical practice. n this Lecture-Workshop, Yotam will focus on a collection of different methods of movement therapy he has learned on his journey of healing from a serious knee injury suffered seven years ago, and chronic migraines that have affected his adult life. These movements, which balance strength, flexibility, mobility and physical articulation have become an important part of his daily morning routine. The workshop is not meant to treat ailments, rather is an opportunity for Yotam to share his personal journey of understanding his own body and see how it can evolve and resonate with others.

Over the course of this lecture-workshop, Yotam will explore practical and theoretical information including:

  • fascia/trigger points and preparation before training.

  • an 'activation' warm up routine inspired by tai-chi and yoga.

  • a series of mobility and movement exercises, focusing on knees, hips, lower back and spine, finding ways to expand active flexibility, movement range and complexity, articulation and isolation.

  • tools and exercises for strengthening and conditioning areas in the body which tend to be 'problematic', painful and hinder progression or cause injury.

  • time for questions / open discussion.

As this class will be facilitated through Zoom, there will be no possibility for interaction other than the discussion session at the end of the class. This means each participant must be responsible for their physical state and safety. As this session is experimental, participants should understand there may be some elements which will not run as smoothly as anticipated while navigating a new digital platform. No equipment is required for this class other than the optional use of a yoga/fitness mat for additional comfort.

Please note, neither Yotam Peled or Contemporary Calgary is liable for any injuries sustained from this class.

*While we encourage viewing for all, we prescribe that only semi/professional practitioners participate in the class.
