Calgary on Purpose
Monday, March 20th | 7PM
Please join us for the first of the 2023 Calgary on Purpose/Contemporary Calgary "Evenings of Conversation and Connection.”
At these evenings we delight in our remarkable neighbours knowing that meeting with and appreciating each other is a powerful balm against the currents of fear and hate eroding our civic life. Our mission is to encourage Calgary to be a model of how the peoples of the world can live well together.
We begin with a few extraordinary creative Calgarians showing brief examples of their work, who will then be interviewed by the inimitable Dave Kelly. Following this, Dave will engage all of us in the audience in conversation. The program will finish by 8:30PM but the bar will be open for those who wish to stay and chat further.
We are very proud that the presenters will include the Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis (who will have just returned from the March 12 ceremony with, we hope, an Oscar -and, yes, we will show their eight-minute film"The Flying Sailor), the indigenous country artist Kyle McKearney whose music heals and empowers through our uncovered history and University of Calgary Doctoral candidate Chenhua Li who, in collaboration with the artist Xiao Xiao, will present from her Doctoral research on -- wait for it---zombie ants!
Because of the generous support of Contemporary Calgary, many volunteers and Calgary Arts Development the evening is free to the public. We invite you to bring friends and colleagues, but please make sure that you all RSVP so we can guarantee your seat.
As noted above the intent is to stimulate conversation and curiosity about our neighbours on this land and our shared concerns, hopes and dreams. Do join us in fostering affection and shared purpose across our beloved city!
