Luke Jerram
Museum of the Moon
January 23—EXTENDED until April 12!

Fifty years ago, the world celebrated as Apollo 11 touched down on the surface of the Moon. Today, the Moon continues to captivate humanity and inspires us to reach for the stars. Contemporary Calgary is pleased to present UK artist Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon, a scale model of the Moon measuring six metres in diameter and featuring 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. Suspended from the top of our 13m high Dome, the luminous Museum of the Moon offers an uncanny and powerfully emotive experience. Heightened with musical compositions created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones, Contemporary Calgary will also present a series of lunar inspired events beneath the Moon.

Luke Jerram’s multidisciplinary arts practice involves the creation of sculptures, installations and live artworks. Living in the UK, but working internationally, Jerram creates art projects which excite and inspire people around the world. Museum of the Moon was inspired by living in Bristol and noticing the huge tidal variation as he cycled over the Avon Cut each day. His moon research also led to his artwork Tide. In 2019 Luke was made a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
