FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):
Contemporary Calgary Educational Programs are often photographed. This photography includes the participants, parents or guardians and their creations. If you wish to not be photographed, please let Contemporary Calgary education staff know upon arrival and they will assist you.
Why are the kids workshops free?
Thanks to the generous support of TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment, we are able to offer workshops and provide a unique art experience for your children at no cost.
What does a typical kids workshop look like?
We will all gather at the front entrance, so please arrive on time to proceed together for our exhibition tour, followed by the workshop. You are highly encouraged to revisit the exhibition after the workshop. Gallery hours can be found here.
How often does Contemporary Calgary offer workshops?
We strive to offer Contemporary Kids workshops every week with some exceptions. Please check our website for the most updated schedule and different sessions for our workshops.
Is workshop content repeated?
We offer the same workshop session on different dates to accommodate participants’ schedules. Please choose only one session for the same workshop that works best for your schedule.
What is the maximum number of children and guardians for one workshop session?
Each workshop has space for 30 children and 30 guardians. We recommend you sign up early to secure your spot!
If you register and are unable to attend, please let us know so we can make your spot available to another participant at least 48 hours in advance. Our workshops are often sold out and we’d like to ensure as many people as possible can participate.
If you need to cancel, please email education@contemporarycalgary.com at least 48 hours in advance.
Do parents/guardians need to stay for the entire duration of the workshop?
Yes, we require at least one parent or guardian to stay with the participant at all times . Parents are encouraged to actively engage with their children during the workshop. We also rely on parents to help make sure children follow gallery etiquette and behave appropriately around works of art. Remember, we look with our eyes and not with our hands! If an artwork is meant to be touched, the facilitators will let you know.
Does each participant require a parent or guardian to accompany them?
Yes. Each participant must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian.
How many children and guardians can I register at once for a workshop session?
You can register up to two guardians and four children on a single registration. While our preference is that each child is accompanied by a guardian, we recognize that a guardian may need to bring more than one child from time to time. A guardian must be able to care for all the children they bring.
Who facilitates the workshops?
The workshops are led by a team consisting of TD Educational Facilitators, the TD Educational Coordinator, Gallery Attendants, and volunteers. All team members have undergone Police Information Checks with a vulnerable sector search.
What is the dress code for workshop participants and accompanying parents or guardians?
We recommend wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty as there are messy materials sometimes involved in the creation of participants’ artistic pieces.
How often can I participate in the workshop?
You can register for all of our different workshops. However, we recommend that you choose only one session from the same repeated workshop to allow for other families to participate.
